Last semester as an undergraduate! Introduction post to my final semester.

Hey! My name is Braley Bench and I'm a senior here at the University of Oklahoma. I'll be graduating in December. I'm from Enid, OK, but have been living in Norman for the past four years. I'm majoring in Psychology and hope to attend Occupational Therapy school once I graduate. I would love to work with children one day!

I love all kinds of animals and have a nine-year-old Yorkie named Sammy. He loves car rides and making trips to the dog park to hang out with his friends. I actually got him as a Christmas gift back in the eighth grade, so he has been part of the family for a long time. Sammy has one younger sister, Molly, who just tuned one! She is a border collie/ Aussie mix. Sammy and Molly love treats, sleeping, chasing rabbits, playing fetch, as well as hanging outside together.

I'm a bit busy this semester (taking 21 credit hours), but in my free time I love to hang out with friends and family. I also like to watch movies and Netflix, and recently started watching The Office. One thing that I love to do is go eat at new restaurants. My favorite food is chicken! I also consider myself a ranch connoisseur, so I'm always on the hunt to find a restaurant that has great chicken and even better ranch. Anyone that knows me knows I will dip just about anything in ranch.

A fun fact about myself is that I'm actually pretty good at bowling (kind of random), and back in high school, our bowling team made it to the state tournament.

I love all kinds of music, but my favorite would have to be country music. You can usually catch me going to random country concerts with friends on the weekends!

  1. Hi Braley, that’s so awesome you are about to graduate – congratulations! I myself have two years left but am a senior, or soon to be super senior as I’ve heard a few times. Psychology is a major I once considered before my own, Microbiology.
I have a dog named Angel, and she absolutely hates car rides! I wish I could get her to like them, but ever since we took her home from the shelter she has hated them. The first time we took her on an hour+ car ride to Lawton for Thanksgiving – she threw up all over my Thanksgiving outfit! I guess she gets a little car sick. Your dogs are really adorable!
Wow, I thought I was busy with 15 hours. Good luck on this last stretch! The office is one of my favorite shows too, but I think I like Parks and Rec more (very similar if you haven’t seen it). I’m pretty similar with the ranch obsession but substitute ranch with cayenne pepper – most of the foods I eat are spicy, in fact I can’t eat pizza without crushed red pepper.
Nice to meet you – my name is Selena.

  2. Hi Braley!

I have connected to you on a spiritual level. I am a ranch SNOB. I spent the summer abroad and three months without it is far too long. Chicken funnily enough is also my favorite food! I am also in 21 hours this semester so I get how busy you are because I am just as stressed out.

It is so exciting you get to graduate this year! I am a junior so I still have a little bit longer to go. I think that your dogs are adorable and you get to spend lots of time with them. I miss my dogs at home a lot, I am even thinking about getting one. I miss having a furry friend around.

It was great to learn about you! I bet we'll be seeing more of each other around.

  3. Hey Braley!

Funny to see you here! I'm happy you're around for another semester because I'm actually graduating in December too! Time flies when you're having fun right?

I too am an animal lover. Your dogs are so cute. I have two German shepherds and they're a hand full. I have a three year old girl named Athena, and a one year old boy named Sampson. I miss them all the time.

    I loved visiting your blog!

  4. Hi Braley! Your dogs are super cute and 21 credit hours sounds like such a handful! Power to you and good luck! I jumped on your intro post so I could reply to your question on mine about what instruments I play, which are the violin, cello, guitar, piano, saxophone, and trumpet. Although realistically I only consistently play my classical guitar and piano still.
How long did you play the cello? Skill definitely does deteriorate over time but I've noticed that instruments are a lot like bicycles in the sense that once you know how to use one, you pretty much have the basics down forever.

  5. Hi Braley! I also want to work with children when I enter the workforce later in life. Your comment about ranch is funny because I would consider myself very similar to a ranch connoisseur, I love ranch and am always trying to find the next best ranch place. I am also a huge country fan and love going to country concerts on the weekends, they are so much fun!

  6. Your dogs are both so cute, Braley! Maybe they can be characters in some story (or stories!) that you write for class this semester. And that is very cool about bowling: nobody has mentioned that as a hobby so far! It is a sport that goes back to antiquity (Wikipedia: ancient bowling) ... I bet you could also find a way to write some kind of mythological bowling story, translating some kind of battle or conflict to cosmic bowling lanes. That would be weird and fun: Bowling with the Gods!

  7. Hi Braley! The pictures of your dogs immediately caught my eye, and they are so incredibly cute! I am currently rewatching The Office for the third time... it's definitely one of my favorites. Where do you think has the best ranch? My go-to chicken sauce is ranch, and depending on the place, I sometimes will dip pizza in ranch. Good luck over the next few months... 21 hours sounds tough but you are so close to being done!

  8. Hey Braley!
Congratulations on almost being done with undergrad! This is also my last semester and although I am in fewer hours, I am taking graduate courses, so I am having those same busy-last-semester feelings. The pictures of your dogs are super cute! My family has cats four cats, and I am hoping that once I start graduate school I can have one of them move in with me to keep me company!

I think it is pretty funny that your favorite food is chicken, because I have eaten so much of eat over the last four years due to meal prepping that if I never ate it again I would be perfectly happy!

Good luck with the chicken/ranch hunt!

  9. Hi Braley! I loved hearing that you're planning to become an occupational therapist to work with kiddos. I got to volunteer in a clinic a few years back and seriously considered doing the same. Your ranch comments also made me happy. I don't dip everything in ranch, but it's one of my favorite condiments. Have you ever tried green grapes in ranch? It sounds so weird, but it's not bad. Best of luck this semester!

  10. Hi Braley,

I’m glad that you have almost made it to graduation! (I’m still working on it). I hope you get admitted to really good occupational therapy school after your graduation. Your puppies are so cute! They are so adorable. Taking 21 hours sounds very busy, but I think you’ll nail it. Chicken and ranch are some of my favorite food, too. They are always delicious without fail. I’m Peter and it’s nice to meet you Braley.

  11. Hi, Braley! Okay, 21 hours is a death sentence, be truly proud of your hard work! Nonetheless, congrats on almost finishing! As for your ranch obsession, I wish you could meet my roommate because she is quite the fan of ranch. She even has a ranking of who has the best ranch and definitely uses it sway her opinion. Good luck on finishing up everything and hopefully Occupational Therapy school too, fingers crossed!

  12. Hi Braley! Congrats on graduating in December! I can imagine the excitement mixed with terror that you are feeling as you approach a new season of life! I love that you want to do occupational therapy, when I came into college, I was interested in that as well. However, I along with many college students decided to choose differently. Really impressed with your dedication to all 21 hours! Keep up the good work.

  13. Hey Braley!

That's awesome that you're graduating in December, I graduate in May myself. I bet you're ready to be done with school as much as I am! It's nice to hear that someone else appreciates a bunch of different kinds of music, though I'd have to say I'm not much of a country fan myself. But to each their own! Anyway, good luck in your final semester!

  14. Hi Braley,
Congratulations on your impending graduation! I graduate in May, and I honestly can't wait. I can only imagine how excited you must be. Your dogs are beautiful, I have always wanted dogs of my own. How did you come up with their names? I think it's funny when dogs have people names. I think that Occupational Therapy is a really noble calling, and I wish you all the best in your endeavors. Congrats again, hang in there (21 hours, omg), and I look forward to reading more of your stories.

  15. Hi Braley, it must be exciting to be graduating so soon! Although your heavy course load of 21 hours this semester seems so overbearing, I hope you make it through strong! I am also an animal lover, so I love that you decided to add pictures of your beloved pets! Both Sammy and Molly are adorable. You have a great rest of your semester!

  16. Hi Braley! Wow, 21 hours is a lot to take in one semester! But since it's your last semester, you can survive almost anything short term & the payoff will be huge! Love your dogs, they're so cute! Occupational therapy seems like such a worthwhile goal--good luck with that! Nice to meet you!

  17. Hey Braley,

I am also graduating this semester and taking excessive hours. It is crazy how fast this last semester is going. I cannot wait to be done but am also surprised at how much I am already starting to miss it. I am sure that OT school will be hard but so rewarding though. Also, your dogs are super cute!

  18. Hey Braley! My aunt is an Occupational Therapist and I can tell that she makes the biggest difference in the lives of the people she works with because she can tell them what they need to hear (which is not always what they want to hear) in the most comforting way and least confusing way as possible. I think that this class is an awesome opportunity to shape our minds to be more conscious about how we deliver messages and connect with each other with the words that we use to communicate.

  19. Hey there Braley! Your dogs are absolutely adorable. So photogenic too! I wish I could get my dog to sit still haha. Wow Occupational therapy seems really cool and its awesome that you'll be able to make such an impact on people in your future. I graduate this semester as well so hopefully we'll see each other at the finish line! 21 hours is no joke, so I hope you find ways to take time for yourself whenever you can!

  20. Hello Braley, My name is Devin and I am also a senior here at OU. It’s sad that college is almost over, but I’m excited for what the world has to offer after school! I really love your two dogs, I have two dogs myself and one is also a yorkie! Also wow, 21 credit hours is a lot of work! I hope the semester is going great, keep it up your almost done!

  21. Hi, Braley! First off, I have to say that I absolutely adore your dogs! They are so cute! Congrats on graduating in December! I am graduating in December of 2019 and I am so ready to be done with school! Occupational therapy seems like a perfect fit for you, and I am glad you found something you are passionate about! 21 hours is waaaay too much work, so be proud of all that you have done! I hope you have a great rest of the semester!

  22. Hey Braley! Your dogs are super adorable, and congratulations on being ready to graduate! I've still got two to three more years ahead of me. I'm getting there. Slowly. Taking twenty-one credit hours sounds absolutely insane! Bowling is a great activity. Fun fact: apparently in college, my dad challenged his bowling instructor to a game and won, so he didn't have to come to class and automatically got an A. I hope everything is going well. You're almost done!
